Chances are that you’re familiar with John Donne’s quote, ‘No man is an island.’ It’s something men turn to time and again to justify needing help. However, it’s a statement that women could do with remembering as well. In the masculine world, it isn’t considered ‘manly’ to admit defeat. For women, asking for help is often considered a sign of weakness by some. When we go it alone in the business world, unfortunately, we still come across male figures waiting to see us fail. As such, we feel as though we have to prove ourselves. And, how better to do that than managing everything ourselves? We are, after all, meant to be the ultimate multitaskers.
In truth, though, no woman is an island either. Choosing to go it alone consistently could harm your happiness and your business. Instead, it’s crucial that you accept help from others during your quest for success. See this decision not as a weakness, but a strength. If other people judge you, let them. Then, prove them wrong by being the best business owner you can be. To help you progress expeditiously towards your goals, let’s look at some of the help which could potentially be missing out on.
The financial backing
If there was ever something women in business try to avoid, it’s being in debt. Women have spent centuries without being able to earn money, so this matters to us. But, starting a business isn’t cheap, and trying to fund the venture yourself could result in it failing. Instead, don’t be afraid to seek financial backing. If you put your heart and soul into your business idea, consider all reasonable financial options to make this a reality. Think of this as a temporary measure on the way to your dreams. And, remember that men in business need loans, too!
The right resources
Women in business realize quickly that help isn’t always visible, either. When you’re embarking on your journey, you’ll need to turn to the right resources to ensure success. This could mean turning to a company which offers an e-commerce solution or using designers to help you develop your brand. Failing to turn to help like this could do real damage to your chances, as well as making your life much more difficult. You have a great deal on your plate as it is at the moment. Don’t pile on more than you have to.
The work team
And, of course, there will come a time when you need to start employing others to support you. There’s no getting around the fact that building an empire requires a team. You may find that it’s hard to let others in on your dream, but it’s essential for business growth. There will come a time when you’re physically unable to keep on top of everything and this could be a good sign; it means you’re probably doing well. But, that’ll soon backfire if you can’t keep up with business demands. Instead, hold onto the positivity of your increased sales and use that strength to justify your need for staff if you need to. In no time, your business will go from struggle to strength, and you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it sooner.
