Despite being educated, experienced and often times overqualified, my late husband rarely asked for or negotiated compensation that he was deserving of.
He was a good guy, passionate about his work, but like so many others, he grew content with receiving salary increases, that by employment market standards were average at best. He believed his work would speak for itself and that he would ultimately receive his just due.
It took several years of disappointing annual salary reviews before he realized that the “squeaky wheel does, in fact, gets the oil.” He eventually took my advice and applied the negotiating skills and knowledge that I provided him with from my 15+ years of human resources executive experience. He effectively marketed himself, sought new and challenging employment opportunities and together we negotiated the highest salary of his career.
Unfortunately, he only lived one additional year to experience and relish this much-deserving “win.”
Don’t let that happen to you!
Ask for what you expect and what you are worthy of NOW.
Whether you are an entrepreneur or employed by someone else, knowing your worth and having the ability to negotiate confidently and effectively, garners the most successful results.
Stop undervaluing your worth and definitely stop leaving money on the table.
Do it not just for you, but for the purpose of creating generational wealth for your loved ones.
Mediocrity should not be an option!
