SEEKING FUN, FAB, FAMILY TRAVEL ACCOMMODATIONS?
Factor The TRYP HOTEL BY WYNDHAM into your next trip to New York City!
When it’s just me and my other half travelling, it’s fairly easy to find a hotel that meets our needs. The five-star hotels with the white-glove service are always readily available. However, when it turns into a complete family affair, finding adequate accommodations becomes a more detailed and time-consuming task.
Sure, it’s easy to simply book two separate rooms, but easy in what way? Certainly not on the wallet, especially in New York City.
This past summer we decided to have an overnight stay in The Big Apple, to celebrate a special someone’s birthday- that would be moi!
I am at a point in my life where grand celebrations are no longer a must-do. I am simply thrilled to be alive and healthy, as opposed to counting the number of gifts that I receive. The gift of life is the most precious one that I can have, and I look forward to being blessed with many more years of happy living.
Because I am also generally a bit of a procrastinator when it comes to things pertaining to my own needs (can you relate?), I neglected to provide my loved ones with suggestions for my big day. Weeks before, I began hearing the “So, what do you want to do for your birthday?” question. It wasn’t until the week of my special day that I decided that I wanted to sail away on a jazz dinner cruise down the Hudson River and then spend the remainder of the evening in New York City. Once I decided upon the “spend the remainder of the evening in Manhattan” portion of the plan, I knew I had my work cut out for me.
After visiting multiple travel websites, reading numerous reviews, and ruling out a two-room reservation, I decided upon a hotel that I had never heard of. Making such a decision is so unlike me, however the reviews were very much to my liking, the accommodations provided the space that we needed, and most importantly, the price was within our budget. The hotel was also a part of the Wyndham hotel family, with which I was quite familiar.
The TRYP By Wyndham Times Square South Hotel is a family-friendly hotel, centrally located in New York City, at 345 West 35th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues.
It is within walking distance of Macy’s Herald Square, Madison Square Garden, the Empire State building and a host of other exciting venues. I made the reservation and proceeded to prepare for my upcoming birthday celebration.
Driving into New York City is comparable to root canal for me, so upon arrival, I was thrilled to be able to exit the car finally. There is no on-site parking; however, there is conveniently a lot across the street from the hotel.
Upon arrival, our room was not quite ready. However the front desk staff member, Shayla, was extremely gracious and accommodating. She secured our bags and encouraged us to make ourselves comfortable in the lobby sitting area, or at the bar while we waited. We opted for the latter; after all, it was my birthday! The tapas at Gastro Bar were OK, but the drinks were superb. Cheers!
Shortly after enjoying our drinks and appetizers, we headed up to our room and were not disappointed
I booked one of the hotel’s family rooms. The room was equipped with two queen beds, bunk beds, 10-foot ceilings and living space, which had a sleeper sofa. Much more space than my crew and I needed. In addition, there was that coveted service that no modern family can do without – Wi-Fi, and it was FREE
Additional amenities included:
- Two HDTV’s with complimentary premier channels
- Refrigerator
- Coffee maker
- Wet bar
- Plush Bathrobe and slippers
- Iron and ironing board
- Safe
- IPod docking stations with MP3 connectivity
- Climate control sensors
- Cordless phone with dual lines, voicemail and speakerphone
- Hair dryer
- Rain shower and hand-held showerhead
Shortly after dropping off our bags, I took a quick elevator ride to check out their rooftop balcony. What a beautiful view. I only wished our stay was longer, so that I could fully enjoy this area of the hotel.
Prior to heading out for our evening aboard the jazz cruise, there was a knock at the door.
Much to my surprise, there was a delivery of a fruit and cheese platter and a bottle of wine, compliments of the hotel. I graciously accepted it of course and set it aside for a birthday nightcap.
As we headed out to the busy streets of New York City to flag down a cab for our night out, we noticed that there was a police station within steps of the hotel entrance. You can’t have much better security than that!
The following morning, we were treated to a complimentary FULL breakfast in the lobby restaurant. The food was excellent, and the staff was extremely attentive. Special thanks to one staff member in particular, Chrystyn, who was extremely helpful and provided great morning conversation.
Even upon check out the impeccable service continued. I happened to share with Shayla that I was considering having a post-birthday beach day. She proceeded to recommended a beach in New Jersey that I had never been too. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans, and the rain derailed mine before I could put my feet in the sand.
More importantly, we unknowingly left a very valuable item behind in our room. Housekeeping called downstairs to alert the staff and subsequently it was brought down to us before we had driven off.
Albeit a short visit, it was a very memorable one. I would highly recommend this hotel, especially for families and large groups.
When you make your reservation, be sure to tell them where you received the recommendation:
