Psst! Whatever happened to “sticks & stones”? Being confident in your own skin?
I know I taught it to my kids, so how hypocritical of me if I don’t practice what I preached?
In case you’ve missed it, there’s been a conversation that’s gone viral and apparently, there is a millenials vs. boomers dynamic in the air.
It’s even earned its own hashtags: Ok Boomer, Okay Boomer, etc.
Yawn.
Newsflash, what’s new here?
Why all the hurt feelings? I took issue with my parents’ generation, and the younger generation has issues with ours.
Oh well!
From my perspective, there is more of a communication gap here than anything else.
There are “hard-headed”, “know it alls” in every generation.
The art of not listening, wanting to be right, etc. is not a skill dominated by any of us in this perfectly imperfect world.
A fellow boomer shared the following with me today: “We all need to take a pause. Having the conversation is good, but making this yet another “us vs.them” will solve nothing.”
To which I responded: “Exactly! Imagine how much more collaboration vs. conflict there would be if there was merely more communication.”
Most of us are fabulous. Most of them are fabulous.
Let us not forget who raised them.
More humor, more listening, less talking over, and about one another.
In the words of the departed Rodney King (Google him if you don’t know), can’t we all just get along?
Peace.
Signed,
Proud Effin’ Boomer
